Certificate in General Duty Assistant (GDA)
The General Duty Assistant (GDA) program equips students to serve as nursing aides in various healthcare settings, including hospitals, nursing homes, and home care environments. Throughout the curriculum, students receive training in delivering basic nursing care and managing patients who are unwell. The course structure consists of four months of classroom instruction followed by two months of practical, on-the-job training.
GDAs operate in close coordination with medical professionals such as doctors and nurses. The nursing assistant course places particular emphasis on fostering empathetic and ethical conduct in addition to providing patient care. Among their primary responsibilities, GDAs ensure the provision of daily care, attend to patient comfort, and address their safety and health needs.
During their training, students acquire proficiency in conducting tests that contribute to the diagnosis and treatment of diseases. Under proper supervision, they learn various techniques such as sample collection, centrifugation, slide preparation, and other diagnostic procedures. Additionally, students are educated on the importance of maintaining accurate records, evaluating laboratory equipment, and staying updated on the latest methodologies in testing.
